Unheard Voices

The door bell goes. I run down the stairs (I call it my exercise for the day!). It’s a parcel delivery service with a big box for ME. I sign for it, tear open the box and yahoo! It’s a box of books, sent courtesy of my publisher.

I love, Love, LOVE getting boxes filled with books.

Unheard Voices Book Cover

Today’s box contains twelve copies of Unheard Voices, a collection of stories and poems around the theme of slavery, published to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the British Parliament passing the Abolition of the Slave Trade Act in 1807. The collection contains stories, poems and extracts, some written almost two hundred years ago, some written especially for this anthology. Contributors include Benjamin Zephaniah, and extract from Roots by Alex Haley, Catherine Johnson, Sandra Agard, Olaudah Equiano, John Agard, Langston Hughes, Gary Paulsen and many others. I’m so excited about this anthology and would like to take this opportunity to thank Sue and Lucy at Random House for their help in putting the collection together.

The anthology is aimed at those of secondary school age. And it will be in the shops soon for the very reasonable sum of £5.99 (shameless plug!)
