Exclusive Book Signing with Malorie Blackman

Award winning author Malorie Blackman will be making a special appearance at the Hackney Empire to sign copies of her acclaimed novel Noughts and Crosses. The stage version of the novel, adapted and directed by Dominic Cooke for the Royal Shakespeare Company, is currently touring the UK. This exclusive event for lovers of children’s literature takes place Saturday 5th April at11.30am. Later that day the final two performances of this hugely popular Romeo and Juliet inspired novel will take place at the legendary Hackney venue.

Tuesday, 25th March 2008 – Crofton Park Library I will be doing a talk about my novels followed by a book signing. The talk will be suitable for the 8-plus age range. Please contact the library for more details.

I was sent a newspaper article today which states that Noughts and Crosses made it into the Top 100 list of the nation’s favourite books, compiled to mark World Book Day this year.Â I made it into the top 10 books in the under-18s category.Â I can’t believe my book is in the company of others in that category such as To Kill a Mockingbird, The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, Pride and Prejudice and Harry Potter.Â Wow!Â I mean, wow!!Â I’ll wake up in a minute!!Â The full list, as printed in the paper, is below:Â (I don’t think they’re in any particular order but I may be wrong) :-

Harry Potter, Pride and Prejudice, Noughts and Crosses, His Dark Materials trilogy, Lola Rose, Matilda, A Series of Unfortunate Events, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe andÂ Catcher in the Rye.

‘RSC To Stage Blackman’ – so it says in print!

Today has been kinda weird and wonderful. The Royal Shakespeare Company have officially announced that they will perform Noughts and Crosses this Christmas.My book has been adapted and will be directed by Dominic Cooke, the artistic director of the Royal Court Theatre. The headline of the announcement made in The Bookseller trade magazine today stated ‘RSC to stage Blackman’. So it must be true!! I think I’m due to do a Q&A session after one of the performances in December along with Dominic and some of the actors (I’m assuming). I CAN’T WAIT!! Yippee! The RSC are doing Noughts and Crosses. Am I thrilled? Hell, yes!!
